Don’t think that only adrenaline junkies want to do mounted shooting. You only need a few things to be on your way. The first thing that you need when getting into this sport is a horse. Your horse needs to take to gunfire, which isn’t as hard as it sounds. Most horses take to the sound with ease, although the safest route is to have an experienced trainer assist you, not only for your safety, but for the horses as well. The second thing you need is the attire. You can opt for either the dated attire where women can wear a shirt with sleeves, corset, and skirt with no hat, and men can wear pants with buttons, long sleeve shirt, and old style hat; or the classic western look meaning jeans, chinks/chaps, long sleeve western shirt, jeans, chaps, and hat for both men and women. The final thing you need is the equipment. From the holsters, chinks, and most importantly guns it seems like a lot. Don’t worry about getting all the things you think you need to begin with, the shooting community is very receptive to newcomers and lend a helping hand to all those who are interested or have joined. If you are interested, the best place to start is by asking a shooter your questions and how to get involved.
Contact our in-house trainers to help you get the correct gear, horse, or introduce your horse to mounted shooting. You can come to a clinic, get private lessons, or training for you and your horse.
